GREER - KAIAKO

Greer firmly believes in the importance of allowing children autonomy over their bodies, gender, social lives, and hobbies. She understands that respecting these choices is crucial for a child's developing mental health. The value of Manaakitanga guides her practice, emphasizing respect, care, and kindness. For Greer, Manaakitanga means nurturing relationships with fellow educators and families, ensuring that the early childhood environment feels welcoming and warm for everyone.

She embraces the RIE philosophy, which holds that children should be valued, respected, and seen as confident individuals. Greer recognizes that this is achieved by providing a safe, undisturbed, and challenging environment where children can learn. In her approach, children collaborate with teachers on care routines like toileting, naptime, and mealtime, fostering a sense of partnership.

As a teacher who supports the RIE philosophy, Greer is attuned to each child's needs and takes responsibility for documenting their growth and development within the early childhood center. She values effective communication and believes in waiting for cues from the tamariki, recognizing their right to be heard. Greer maintains that children should be respected and seen as competent, enabling them to engage in activities that challenge them both cognitively and physically. Above all, she advocates for a safe and calm environment where children can thrive.
